As a pre-law student, I’ve always wanted to visit the parliament, to see all the action and urm, fun in the law-making houses. Why, this is the legislative arm, the government arm which the lower house represents democracy in the form of indirect democracy! Plus, I know that I’d not possibly have the time nor the mood to do so after I finish my undergraduate studies as I’d be too busy as a “working adult”, so, I signed up when Taymun emailed me on this parliament trip without any hesitation. =)

Lol as usual we ladies have to COVER EVERYTHING so I chose a pair of baju kurung which I bought prior to entering the local matriculation college which the policy is also quite similar to the parliament’s.

I thought mats are meant for stepping on and was taken aback when the guards at the security checkpoint asked us not to step on it. Nevertheless, we all had a good laugh when Kershey stamped on it. College kids, heheh. Apparently, this door is meant for MPs only and we got to enter the parliament through this door because there was no sitting on that day. Shucks.

In the lobby, there were oil paintings of previous Heads of State (Yang di-Pertuan Agong) on the one side and previous Prime Ministers on the other side.

Oh, since there was no sitting on that day, we got to take LOADS of pictures, something that we wouldn’t have gotten a chance to do if there was a sitting! We took pictures of every corner of the parliament and that was really fun!

After we’re finished camwhoring at the Upper House, we proceeded to the next camwhore destination – The Lower House @ House of Representatives (Dewan Rakyat)

I like this house better, besides the fact that it symbolizes democracy;  love how the building is lit up with natural light i.e sunlight (lol).

Somehow, this house gives out a feel of grandeur compared to its stepbrother the Upper House.

Oh, I’ve almost forgotten the funniest part! A friend of ours asked the officer-in-charge during the briefing Q&A session. “Urm, Encik, what if the MPs sleep during the sitting? Will any action be taken against them?” At this point we were so excited I took out my phone and quickly clicked on the recorder to record the answer. Alas, before I could press on the “Record” button, another friend sitting next to me snatched the phone to get a closer and clearer recording. The officer hesitated for a moment and said, ” Ah, untuk pengetahuan anda, MP-MP bukannya tidur dalam sitting, mereka tu, sebenarnya tengah berfikir!” ( Ah, FYI, the MPs don’t sleep during the sittings, they are actually thinking!) His answer was responded by the whole group roaring in laughter! xp Lol it was super hilarious!!! But soon after the laughter died out, I felt like crying, because the “Record” button wasn’t even pressed.

But I managed to record when the friend of mine asked whether there’s a time limit for them to “think” though, haha. Well, apparently, there isn’t. xp

* I tried downloading audio converters to convert the recording into the formats WordPress accepts but failed miserably. WordPress, you’re making life very difficult for me.

After that, he left us to ourselves to explore the rest of the parliament. Upon exiting the HOR, I entered this hallway with plaques that had the names of MPs of the very first Dewan Negara and Dewan Rakyat to the current one. Pretty cool.

Notice that there are a lot of wooden carvings in the parliament which are quite quaint.

Continuing our adventure at the parliament, we then noticed a special secluded area.

A smoking area for the MPs!!!!

Okay whatever you say, I’ve not seen enough of the world, but I really had no idea that there’s a smoking area in the parliament!! I mean, who would have expected such a solemn place on earth to have a smoking area, right?

An open air area for our MPs to huff and puff. Well, guess they won’t be able to smoke when it rains. Or maybe, we have a retractable roof like that of Queen’s Court at Wimbledon too!!!^^

But one thing’s for sure. We have a fountain there. For chillaxing, maybe?

Not far from the smoking area, there’s a buffet room like those in hotels for MPs to dine in. Hmmm maybe I’ll be a politician too. xp However, after chatting with the officer, I found out that the MPs do have to pay for their meals, but the amount is puny with them receiving RM300 every time they attend a sitting.

Bye, Malaysian Parliament! We had a great time!

After a week-long battle with my much-suspected H1N1 flu which to my classmates’ dismay turned out to be a nothing-more-than-normal flu, whilst battling the drowsiness those forsaken medicine kept drilling into my brain as I worked on my Economics Common Test, I decided that I had to go to Sunway Pyramid to give myself a break that I truly deserved.

Ken, a fan of basically all tear-jerking Disney movies and any other animation insisted on watching Ice Age 3 and so I agreed, just to check out the hype about a furry curled-tusked mammoth, a saber tooth tiger, two weasels and a stinky sloth. To be honest, I’ve only watched half of the previous Ice Age’s coz I turned them off halfway through for finding them boring. Or maybe it was the pirated Dvd. Never mind.

But Ice Age 3 was funny! Basically, the whole cineplex was filled with laughter and chuckles throughout the 1 hour plus or so. Well, that cleared my stereotype of Ice Age movies being only filled with lame jokes. So, we tried booking tickets coz we don’t wanna waste our time queueing there. I phoned for not less than 10 times, only to hear the ice cold clear robot-like female voice narrating,” Welcome to TGV Cinemas,” followed by a long pause. No further instructions. No nothing. Mum, if you’re reading this, this is the explanation for my phone bill, thank you very much. And it’s either I’ve failed to discover this the last time I booked tickets with TGV or it’s a new policy, they freaking charge a non-refundable RM1 for every booking compared to GSC who doesn’t charge a single cent. Not that RM1 is an amount big enough to be fussed over, but neither is it an  amount to be overlooked. Imagine, if you book 10 times a month, that’s already RM10, which is more than enough for another movie ticket.

Thus, we went without ticket bookings and hoped to secure some tickets before we went for dinner.

Only to be greeted by this sight.

A queue which stretched pass the red tape and snaked across the F&B queue right to the entrance! o.O

Sighing, we  joined the crowd. But still, the growling of our stomachs was impossible to be ignored, with the very cunning TGV F&B bar fanning the smell of caramel buttered popcorn towards the crowd. We had no other choice but to surrender and buy a bucket of popcorn while waiting in the queue.

Surprise, surprise, the bottom of the bucket was visible right after we entered the red taped area.

We finally managed to grab hold on 3 tickets. Finally, we figured out that maybe this was the cause for the long queue:

But what the heck, Tony Roma’s it is for dinner.

I think I have some kind of disorder. I’ve forgotten where I’ve read about it, but there’s this disorder that makes it impossible for people to choose. I personally find it impossible, if not, difficult to choose something to eat from the menu and it always takes me ages to finally decide on my main course. If anyone who’s reading this knows how to cure it, please let me know, except for telling me to choose my favourite. I can’t! I like a little of everything so I don’t even have favourites! Yes it’s confirmed it’s a disorder somebody help me. Lol.

Despite the starvation, I managed to camwhore a little.It’s been ages!

Yeah, there you go. No make-up, no hair style, no piercings, no contacts because I don’t even wear glasses; I don’t need them – totally unpolished look. And a round neck tee for a weekend at the mall. Yeah you got that right. This is me.  Maybe some day I’ll just go lunatic and put up make up and doll up.

Some day.

But I do think I need a new hairstyle. A fringe cut, maybe? It looks too boring. The good girl look, yeah I know. No one needs to tell me that, I have a mirror in the bathroom, thank you very much. The look which spells B-O-R-I-N-G. Someone tell me something I don’t know.

Finally, the food!

Oh, this was complimentary, by the way. WARM bread and a scoop of garlic butter. But the butter was too buttery and not much of a flavour though.

Shrimp Scampi Pasta with LOTS of small shrimps. Was contemplating over this but reminded self that shrimps are a lot of cholesterols.

Burger with thick patty and lovely bacon strips. Friend ordered well done but I think it came 3/4 done. =-= Oh, and the fries were excellent!

Marinated chicken breast with corn and broccoli. I love broccoli and I’ve been craving for corn for the past two days, thus the combination of side dishes. One of the chicken breasts was juicy and tender while the other tad too dry. I found it saltier towards the end though, don’t know why, but the whole meal went alright.

I forgot to take my last dose of antibiotics yesterday so I took it just now along with the flu and phlegm meds. Hope I don’t become immune to antibiotics or something due to my bad memory.

Anyways, medicine always makes me drowsy without fail. *yawn

Life is truly exciting as we discover new things almost everyday.

Well, today, I’ve just discovered that friggin’ blue-butt ants or more commonly known as semut selangor (See pict below) dig tuna in water (light) too!

My leftover tuna from breakfast which I planned to have as lunch was ruined by these stupid ants!!!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr how could you rob a poor student on a tight allowance of her lunch you evil stupid brainless blue-butt ants!!!

FYI, the black dots on the side are those filthy ants moving about.

There goes my lunch. F***ing ants.

Short post: I’ve officially achieved the ultimate skill of peeling open the aluminium foil off a yoghurt container without breaking the surface!

As yoghurt-eaters in Malaysia know, we have to peel off the foil and there will be a layer of a slightly hardened layer on the top of the container and the layer of yoghurt will usually be broken when you peel the foil!While I, here, have reached the ultimate level!

The brother was back in Penang for a eating spree.

Day 1:

My cousins knew I was craving for ikan bakar, and they brought me to Red Garden or Red House I’ve forgotten sorreee. =-= But it’s either. Or neither. My memory always fails me. Especially during exams wtf. T______________T

Mmmmmm definitely one of the plates of yummiest squids I’ve tasted lately!

Mutton kebab. It was not bad, but maybe mutton’s just not my thing. =p

Day 2:

On the next day, aunt treated thy blogger and her bro to lunch at Golden Triangle at Queensbay Mall while she went for a slimming session at Marie France Bodyline.

Thy blogger’s tray of lunch which she could not possibly finish given her diminished appetite, benefiting the brother who was just waiting to pounce. Nah, just kidding eh wei yip..xp

Day 3:

Went for the infamous Penang Road chendol!

Maybe I’m just not as hungry as I was when I was a kid, but the chendol tasted better when I was small. Kids’ hunger pang lols.

Day 4:

The uncle came back from outstation and we were all set for a heavy dinner!! xp

The cousin recommended QE II  near the Penang jettywhich supposedly has the best pizza in town.

Great ambience there, perfect for a quiet dinner or get-together at the seaside.

And also an awesome view we’ve got there!

Before we could even utter a word after we were seated, we were served these very lovely oven-fresh bread with a saucer of balsamic and olive oil for dipping.

Ordered a pint of Heineken with bro but I guess I’d have preferred a glass of fruit juice.

Ze alcoholic. >-< haha.

Our xxx Chicken. Urrr was it Tequila Chicken? Or Vodka chicken? Hey it was something alcoholic come on recall!!! T_____________________T My memory has to fail me. =((((

They even have a buggy to ferry you to the other end!And the guard was super friendly. He even let the little guy hold the wheel!

On Saturday, we tried out a new restaurant near our place! Called D’Fortune or something like that.

And they gave out fortune cookies! Ahhhh we were so excited lols

I bit mine open and guess what, it wasn’t even telling me my fortune!

But despite that, the black pepper chicken I had was not bad. And the pasta accompanying was a little spicy, just nice for me but a little chewy. =(

Steamed roti with butter and kaya. It doesn’t look so nice but it tastes okay.

“Charm”  with ice. It means a mixture of milk tea and coffee. It was only so-so as it was not thick enough. Aunt said that it was better the last time she came though. Well…

And stupid primary schoolgoers playing fire crackers. Primary school boys are just plain irritating. Shall write a post on that on another fine day.

Well, that’s a brief summary about my break so far. It had been fun <3

How I wish I could go back to my childhood.

A school day starts with changing into my navy blue school dress with pleated folds. Granny would then have the little girl who was not really tall stand in front of her while she ties the little girl’s waist-long hair into a tidy pony-tail, entertaining her requests of putting on her favourite hairpins although she didn’t really need them. The aunty who lived in the same residential garden would arrive punctually everyday to send me to school, no matter rain or shine.

A day at school would mean playing games with classmates, reading Peter and Jane and other storybooks, doing simple exercises, sitting in a circle as we waited eagerly like little birds waiting for their mother to return to their nest for our teacher to tell us one fascinating story after another, awed by the kings and queens and princes and princesses in the faraway land. Playtime would bring us to the playground which now seemed meagre, but the was where all the excitement was! Time flies, and in no time, it was already time to go home.

My cries of “Granny, I’m back!” as soon as I reached home would be received by granny with her asking me to take a bath and then have lunch that she’d already prepared for us. I would then hop into the bathroom while telling her stories about school as she listened attentively to me. Not long after lunch, aunty’s car’s honk would sound again at the frontyard as Bro and our cousin come back from primary school. I would then dash to them to check if there were any goodies that they had brought back from school as they bragged about their world of “Big boys and big girls” while I listened enthusiastically and asked for a sweet or a piece of chocolate the “Big children” could buy at their canteen.

Afternoons would mean playing “masak-masak” with my cousin in the frontyard or following Bro around to play with marbles and stuff. We would pick leaves and twigs and sand for our games and sometimes a petal or two of Granny’s treasured flowers (Shhh…) to add a little zing into our cooking. Tip-toeing out of the house while trying to push the bicycles which were far too big for us out of the house to sneak to the sundry shops a few roads behind when grandma had her afternoon naps was also fun, particularly when we had to try to finish the junk food we bought and to discard of the wrappings to not let granny discover our unpermitted “trips”.

And, ah, the evenings! Playing with neighbours as Mum forbade us to do stunts deemed too dangerous in the weather which was not as hot as it is now then on the road in front of our house was never boring. After an hour or two, we would then drag our sweaty bodies into our houses for a quick bath and then, dinner in our pjs. No tuition, no homework , no nothing.

After dinner, we would cuddle in front of the TV to watch some TV series -  F.B.I, America’s funniest videos and stuff like that. Reading Walt Disney stories would signal that bedtime was here as we yawned after the last sentence in the book and bade Mum good night.

Such was life as a pre-schooler.

How I wish I could go back for just a few days, to reminisce the wonderful times and to remind myself of the innocence of a child’s life which I should have had preserved in myself.
